Primal Carnage: Evolution

Frequently Asked Questions

NOTE: Some information may be subject to change. This page will be updated over time.

What is Primal Carnage: Evolution?

Primal Carnage: Evolution is a new version of Primal Carnage that has been developed specifically for PlayStation, featuring remastered visuals, evolved gameplay and mountains of new content.

Unlike the original 2015 game which was an outsourced port, Primal Carnage: Evolution has been developed in-house by Circle 5 Studios - it is the first PlayStation title we’ve produced ourselves.

Although our core team is small (literally five people) we wanted to do right by our PlayStation fans and bring a decade’s worth of overhauls and expansions from our PC game to console. We’ve worked hard to deliver something we feel goes beyond the average basic remaster / re-release, pouring our blood sweat and tears into this game.

Where can I play Primal Carnage: Evolution?

Primal Carnage: Evolution will be playable on the following platforms:

PS4 / PS4 Pro and PS5 / PS5 Pro (via backwards compatibility).

How much and how soon?

Primal Carnage: Evolution will be $19.99 USD in North America

(note that regional pricing may vary in other territories).

Our team is aiming to submit the game for final certification soon. Depending on how long the platform holder takes to approve things, Evolution will release either at the tail end of October of early Dinovember.

Can I get any bonuses by pre-ordering?

We will not be able to do pre-orders as a small indie title, but we’re going to have a Founder’s Pack code usable by anyone who jumps into Primal Carnage: Evolution during its first few weeks.

When redeemed, this code will unlock special cosmetic items for free. Please use the code as soon as possible on the in-game store, as it is only redeemable for a short time. More details on code availability will be shared closer to release.

Can I just get the game for free?

ALL of our 500+ closed beta testers will get a free copy. The beta is coming to a close, but we will also be doing some giveaways around launch day, so keep an eye on the official Twitter and Discord channels if you want to be in with a chance of a free copy!

What if I own Primal Carnage: Extinction? (PS4)

Nothing will change with the original Extinction game on PlayStation, it will continue to be available and playable.

You DO NOT need to own Extinction or its DLC to play Evolution, they are separate games.

Unfortunately, due to the PS4 version of Primal Carnage: Extinction being under a different publisher, we cannot update the original title and it is not possible to transfer progress or unlocks from that game to Evolution.

What if I own Primal Carnage: Extinction? (PC)

If you are a PC player, almost all of the new content and upgrades found within Primal Carnage: Evolution will be added to Primal Carnage: Extinction as free updates via Steam in the coming months. The only exception being certain features that are specifically console-only (such as virtual currency).

What is included with Primal Carnage: Evolution?

Primal Carnage: Evolution featrures 5 game modes: Team Deathmatch, Evacuation, Onslaught, Capture the Egg and Sandbox, with over 25 remastered maps to battle on. Within the Competitive modes there are 12 playable dinosaurs and five human classes, all possessing a range of special abilities.

Apart from the remastered game itself, ALL 150+ pieces of paid DLC from the original Primal Carnage: Extinction (PS4) will be included for FREE. These legacy items will now be part of your default inventory or as unlocks for completing trophies, alongside hundreds of other free items to equip from day one.

Are there new playable dinosaurs?

Yes! In the core game modes we have two dinosaur classes that are new to PlayStation - the agile headbutter Pachycephalosaurus and bulky bruiser Ceratosaurus. Outside of the Competitive modes, there are also some entirely new bonus dinosaurs in Sandbox mode such as - Iguanodon, Compy, Stegosaurus and Parasaurolophus.

Are there new weapons?

Compared to the original Primal Carnage: Extinction (PS4) there are numerous new toys for the mercenary team to play with! Dual SMGs, a heavy sniper rifle, compound bow, flameslammer, and many more gadgets from gas mines to bear traps to zap traps!

Are there benefits to playing on PS4 Pro / PS5?

Yes! Playing on PS4 Pro or higher platforms allows for improved graphics and performance. Base PS4 runs at 1080p while PS4 Pro and above run at 1440p 60fps with up to 4K texture resolution.

Will there be new trophies?

There are double the trophies in Primal Carnage: Evolution compared to the original Primal Carnage: Extinction (PS4). Each trophy rewards you with new cosmetic item(s). Complete a whole grade of trophies, such as all Bronze, and you unlock the Precious Metals skins for that tier!

What other juicy new features are in Evolution?

There are many new gameplay mechanics compared to the classic PS4 version, which have been brought over from PCE on PC. Entirely new features that will appear first on PlayStation include the Announcer and Skill systems, along with 200+ collectable Intel docs that dive into the backstory of resurrecting the dinosaurs!

Will there be accessibility settings?

We have included a range of new accessibility options to tweak the experience your liking, from being able to adjust controls sensitivity for both dinosaurs AND humans separately, camera customization, and the ability to disable various effects such as screen shake and motion blur.

What about new DLC?

All major updates for Primal Carnage: Evolution will be free, adding new maps and features at no extra cost.

At this time we have no plans to add traditional DLC packs, but as mentioned earlier all of the classic paid DLC packs from Primal Carnage: Extinction are now part of the base game. Cosmetic items for Evolution will be available through the ingame store and purchasable with Phoenix Points (PXP).

You can earn PXP for free by completing weekly challenges and ranking up in-game, or buy bundles via the PlayStation Store.
