MELTDOWN Part 2 - Patch 1.58

A new update has been released for Primal Carnage: Evolution!

Please make sure that you are on the latest version by restarting your console, or by using the Check For Update option in the game properties.

Welcome to the second phase of our summer update trilogy, Meltdown: Part 2! We’ve got another huge helping of scorching hot looks for both humans and dinos, alongside more fixes and feature improvements. The third and final part of Meltdown will be even bigger, but for now, let’s check out today’s update!

HOT NEW LOOKS

Dozens of sizzling new skins arrive today for both PCE on PC and Primal Carnage: Evolution, ranging from some snazzy SMGs to more marvellous mutations! You can see a small sampling of the scorching highlights now available below, and be sure to check out all of the new customizations on our special event Trello board.

New: EVOLVE to start again!

Have you already reached maximum rank? This update is for you!

When you have maxed out at Rank 50, there is a new main menu option to Evolve your rank in order to start over.

Also know as “prestiging”, by choosing to Evolve you will be set back to rank zero but with a new Evovled Rank indicator that goes up each time that you Evolve again.

After choosing to Evolve your rank, you will receive a large reward of Phoenix Points (PXP)

Kick it out!

Since the launch of Evolution, server hosts have had the option to kick players from matches. We included this since there’s always some bad apples that can ruin the fun of others, and it seemed logical to give the host of a match the power to kick them out.

However, it appears that many cannot be trusted with this power, and the abuse of kicking has led us to rethink its place in the game. As of version 1.58 hosts can only kick players in Sandbox mode. The kick option is no longer available in Competitive matches.

We’ve heard way too many reports of hosts kicking players simply for having killed them (the thing that’s kinda the point of the game!) or booting people who dare to take the Tyrant slot when it’s available. We did briefly considered adding Vote Kick to the game, but it’s likely that most players would just passively vote Yes to a kick in order to get the popup offscreen, so we decided against its inclusion in Competitive.

Sandbox Improvements

Although there are some lingering issues with the Sandbox quick menu and commands, we’ve been focusing on functionality with the playable classes lately.

For example.. as of this patch, Stegosaurus now has a directional tail swipe that you can aim either left or right. Plus, both Stego and Brachi can actually deal serious damage with their attacks instead of just tickling players or going through them. You’ll have to watch out when standing near a Brachiosaurus, as they deal trample damage now. Additionally, Brachi can now graze if they find the right spot to bend down.

We’ll have more tweaks and improvements to Sandbox in future updates, but will be turning our attention towards adding new weaponry for the human team next.

General Fixes

We’re continuing to make bug fixes and tweaks based on what has been reported by the PlayStation community. Be sure to check out the official Discord channel if you want to give feedback for future updates! Join us at:discord.gg/primalcarnage

Today we’ve increased the server tick rate from 30 Hz to 60 Hz, to hopefully reduce latency and increase the reliability of hit detection. NOTE: this may put more strain on those who are hosting matches using the base model PlayStation 4, but seeing as almost 80% of our players are on PS5 this seemed a worthwhile tradeoff.

There are several other fixes and tweaks in this update, including a second pass on the new Railyard TDM map to make it more performant and visually interesting. Scroll further down for the full change log at the bottom of this post…

On the Horizon: Memory Optimizations

Looking ahead to future patches, we are still in the process of porting the new async loading system from PC to PlayStation. Once this is up and running, it should reduce memory usage significantly across both PS4 and PS5, improving stability and cutting down on crashes.

We’re aiming to get that deployed to console within the next month, if possible. The system already went live for PCE on PC, but it still has some visual bugs to resolve. Our programmers ask for your patience while they work through this tricky task, which involves completely rewriting how the engine loads and unloads files.

The rest of the team are hard at work preparing new weapons such as the Dual Repeaters for Trapper, while also planning a rework of the classic Hunt Mode which may return this Halloween. More to share soon…

Thanks for playing!
